The ScotlandsPeople website: www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk is the official Scottish Government site for searching government records and archives.
In this site you have access to the statutory registers of births, marriages and deaths; census returns; church records; evaluation rolls; and legal records from Scotland's courts of law".
These include indexes and images.
This class on the ScotlandsPeople website will explore what's on the website, how to register as a user, buy credits, obtain certificates, as well as advice on researching the site.

Discover a World of Family History
The Genealogical Society of Victoria is delighted to invite you to our library to learn about researching your family story in Scotland.
The GSV library holds a large number of resources to assist with researching Scottish family history and many of our Members have considerable research experience and skills in the area. We are opening our Library to give you an opportunity to learn about our resources and meet our experts who will provide individual assistance for your research. There will be an introductory talk and then you will have an opportunity to explore what’s there – both on line and on the shelves.
Due to our limited space, the Library will be open to eight (8) Members of the Public only at each of two sessions.
WHEN: WEDNESDAY 10TH JULY Presenters: GSV Librarians and volunteers
MORNING SESSION: 10.30am - 12 NOON AFTERNOON SEESSION: 1.30pm - 3.00pm
WHERE: Level 1, 10 Queen St, Melbourne (also level access from Bond St at the rear of the building). Take the lift to the 1st Floor.
The link below provides access to the special page on which people who are not members of the GSV can register for a payment of $15. Payment options will be standard PayPal or ring GSV 9662 4455 and provide credit card details over the phone. (GSV members can register as per usual thorough your members log-in.)
